Freehold Bypass (NJ 33) Eastbound Freehold Bypass (NJ 33) Westbound
This is the beginning of the Freehold Bypass (NJ 33) eastbound at Exit 24(East Business NJ 33, To North US 9, Freehold Business District) in Manalapan Township.  Here, the bypass carries the main line away from the old Manalapan-Freehold Turnpike (NJ 33 and Business NJ 33) alignment, while the Manalapan-Freehold Turnpike continues east into Freehold as Business NJ 33.  Note the old signage on the right.  These signs were so old that whole sections of green paint had fallen off, leaving the bare metal surface showing.  They have since been replaced.  Filmed August 17, 2000.

This is the current beginning of the Freehold Bypass (NJ 33) westbound at Halls Mill Road in Freehold Township.  At the present time, the bypass is incomplete and ends at a cloverleaf with Halls Mill Road.  The easternmost entrance is the cloverleaf ramp above that leads away from northbound Halls Mill Road, which continues north towards the left.  However, within the next year, the final eastern segment of the bypass between Halls Mill Road and Park Avenue (NJ 33) at Fairfield Road is scheduled to open.  This will result in the reduction of traffic along Park Avenue (NJ 33 and Business NJ 33), as well as the removal of traffic from Halls Mill Road, which currently serves as a connector between the existing sections of NJ 33 (the Freehold Bypass and Park Avenue).  NJ 33 along Park Avenue between Fairfield Road and Halls Mill Road will also be redesignated as Business NJ 33.  Filmed August 17, 2000.

This is the Freehold Bypass (NJ 33) eastbound just west of Exit 25(West CR 537, Smithburg) in Freehold Township.  Filmed August 17, 2000.

This is the Freehold Bypass (NJ 33) westbound at Halls Mill Road in Freehold Township.  Here, the cloverleaf ramp from Halls Mill Road northbound is merging with the unopened lanes of the mainline Freehold Bypass (NJ 33), thus marking the easternmost open section of the bypass.  Note the blank sign on the Halls Mill Road overpass in the background.  This sign is for the unopened cloverleaf ramp to Halls Mill Road southbound, which will not be signed and opened until the completion of the bypass within the next year.  Filmed August 17, 2000.

This is the Freehold Bypass (NJ 33) eastbound at Exit 27(South US 9, To NJ 79, Lakewood) in Freehold Township.  Filmed August 17, 2000.

This is the Freehold Bypass (NJ 33) westbound west of Halls Mill Road in Freehold Township.  The long diagonal Willowbrook Road overpass is ahead.  Willowbrook Road was realigned to prevent an extraordinarily long overpass from being constructed, and yet the realigned overpass is still unusually long.  Filmed August 17, 2000.

This is the Freehold Bypass (NJ 33) eastbound east of Exit 27(South US 9, To NJ 79, Lakewood) in Freehold Township.  The sign on the left warns of the impending end of the left lane, which disappears to prevent late merging problems closer to the current end of the bypass at Halls Mill Road.  Also note the long diagonal Willowbrook Road overpass just ahead.  Willowbrook Road was realigned to prevent an extraordinarily long overpass from being constructed, yet it still requires an unusally long overpass.  Filmed August 17, 2000.

This is the Freehold Bypass (NJ 33) westbound at Exit 27(North NJ 79, South US 9, Freehold, Lakewood) in Freehold Township.  Note the extremely old and dilapidated signs.  As can be seen, whole chunks of paint had fallen off, showing large sections of bare metal.  These signs have since been replaced.  Filmed August 17, 2000.

This is the Freehold Bypass (NJ 33) eastbound just west of Exit 29(Halls Mill Road, Adelphia) in Freehold Township.  The roadway here has been reduced to a single lane in order to slow travellers for the fast-approaching end of the freeway.  This will be widened to 2 lanes each way when the final section of the bypass is opened within the next year.  Filmed August 17, 2000.

This is the Freehold Bypass (NJ 33) westbound east of Exit 26(CR 537, To North US 9, The Amboys, Newark, Smithburg) in Freehold Township.  Filmed August 17, 2000.

This is the Freehold Bypass (NJ 33) eastbound at Exit 29(Halls Mill Road, Adelphia) in Freehold Township.  Here, all traffic is diverted into the Halls Mill Road northbound ramp, which takes traffic back to Park Avenue (NJ 33 and Business NJ 33).  At the time of the photo, construction on the final section of the bypass had just started, but now a large swath of the forest visible at the end of the mainline here has been removed and is being turned into the final section of the freeway.  Filmed August 17, 2000.

This is the Freehold Bypass (NJ 33) westbound at Exit 25(Wemrock Road) in Freehold Township.  Again note the decrepit sign above, with large sections of exposed metal.  As with the others, these signs have been replaced.  Filmed August 17, 2000.

This is the current end of the Freehold Bypass (NJ 33) eastbound at Halls Mill Road in Freehold Township.  Traffic currently continues north on Halls Mill Road ahead and eventually reaches Park Avenue (NJ 33), thus rejoining the current NJ 33.  Filmed August 17, 2000.

This is the end of the Freehold Bypass (NJ 33) westbound in Manalapan Township.  Here, the bypass merges with the Manalapan-Freehold Turnpike (NJ 33 and Business NJ 33).  The road continues west as the Manalapan-Freehold Turnpike (NJ 33), a 4-lane divided arterial.  Filmed August 17, 2000.
